Who we are

PS 3 'til 6 is an arts and recreation after-school program which serves kindergarten through 5th grade students in the PS 3 community. We strive to provide an environment in which each child feels safe, respected and encouraged to explore a variety of fun and enriching activities. We endorse the PS3 Mission Statement and its founding principles.

PS 3 'til 6 is a committee of the PS 3 Executive Council, part of the SCC, and is managed by parent volunteers drawn from the PS 3 community. This helps us keep tuition costs as low as possible. The role of the Committee is to set program policy (including pricing and payment schedules), determine course offerings, hire managers and advise the program administrator. The existence of PS 3 'til 6 depends on parent volunteers – we welcome your involvement in whatever way possible. All parents are encouraged to attend meetings or join the committee.

Two years ago we began a partnership with the Police Athletic League (PAL) to provide resources and support our program activities. We will be continuing our partnership with PAL and are looking forward to working with PAL to continue to enhance the overall program.

PS 3 'til 6 is self-supporting; the program receives no financial aid from the school district, city or state. Tuition is sour sole source of funding. If we do not receive tuition payments in a timely fashion we are unable to pay our expenses and the program suffers. Therefore prompt and full payment is crucial.

In 2001 PS 3 'til 6 was designated a not-for-profit corporation ( c ) ( 3 ) and the committee is actively seeking grant opportunities to enrich the program, fund additional scholarships for our community and keep costs as low as possible for all.

Days & Hours of Operation

PS 3 'til 6 is open every school day, including half-days (the only exception is the last day of school). Hours are from 3pm to 6pm. We do not operate during school holidays, vacation or any day PS 3 is closed.

Please call (212) 807-9635 (after school number) if you have a transportation problem or emergency and will be late picking up your child. A late fee of $15 dollars per fifteen minutes will be charged to parents who pick up their children late from PS 3 'til 6. This money is used as overtime pay to the PS 3 'til 6 staff. If you pick up your child late more than three times, you will be asked to leave the program.

Class & Activities Schedule Policy

Classes are chosen three times per year, at the beginning of each trimester. We hope you'll encourage your child to attend the classes they choose. Children can change a class only during the first two weeks of the program. After that, you child will have to wait until the following trimester to change classes. Carefully read our Trimester Schedule(s) for appropriate grade groupings and specific instructions. This schedule is subject to change and is determined by instructor availability and enrollment levels.

All class change requests must be in writing and given to Kim Brandon, our program director, is Room 306.

Safety Information

PS3til6’s primary concern is the safety and well being of the children in our care. Therefore the staff cannot allow behavior and activities that are unsafe or disruptive.

Unsafe behaviors include: playing on the stairs; exiting the building without an adult; going into parts of the building not supervised by PS3til6 staff; wandering away from their scheduled activities.

PS3til6 cultivates an atmosphere of non-violence in words and deeds. We encourage an attitude or respect for peers, students, teachers and school community. We ask that you, as parents, guardians and community members set an example of these behaviors and give your staff your full cooperation.
