Susan Crowson

My name is Susan Crowson.  I am a mother of a 3rd grader, Sam who is in Cynthia W’s class and Benjamin and 4th grader in Priscilla’s class. We transferred from our West Village sister school PS 41 Fall 2008.

While a newcomer to PS 3 this Fall, I’m not a stranger to the west village community, having lived around the corner from PS3 for the past 24 years.

My community activities keep me rather busy as I’m on the Board of GVLL, Soloist and Council Secretary of St. John’s Lutheran Church, former Division Coordinator for DUSC, and former Board member/treasurer of GO Project tutoring program, and active member of PS PAC.

I have been enjoying my time here at PS 3 and getting involved in a myriad of activities such as Square One Art, Class Parent, Field Day, Event Planning, PTA and look forward co-chairing Class Parent Committee with Cathy Marino-Thomas and taking over Square One Art from Mary Cozza next Fall.

I think that my experience with both General Education and Special Education issues gives me a unique insight into the needs of all children within our community.  I have been a frequent guest and outspoken advocate for Special Education issues, parent advocacy, overcrowding, class size, middle school seats etc.  at many  CECD2, City Council Education Committee meetings as well as other  meetings around the city in which the DOE is in attendance. I plan to continue to speak on behalf of all children in this city so that they all can receive an appropriate and fulfilling education.

I have a varied background in education both in General and Special Education with experience as a pre-school teacher, music therapist and support team for the disabled in a variety of settings.  Recently, I sat on a Panel at NYU Steinhardt  School for Education Students on Special Education and the needs of our Special Learners.

I would be thrilled and honored to continue my work as a part of the SLT here at PS3.

Thank you,

Susan Ashland Crowson
